In Memory

Henry Persons

H.H. graduated from Indiana University in 1966. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity there.

He was a 2nd Lt. in the Marines and served in Viet Nam.  He died during the Tet Offensive on February 1, 1968 when he and the battalion he was leading stepped on a land mine.  His parents moved to California in 1971, and H is with them in the Pomona, California Mausoleum in southern California. His sister Toni Channer lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and this detailed information is from her.

He is remembered.  I have visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC several times and always look for his name.

I, too, have visited his name in Washington, D.C. and said a prayer for H.

His sister, Toni Channer, has contactd me and has sent H's Southside letter jacket to me.  If any of you fellow lettermen would like to have it, let me know......

H. H. was such a special person.  I have visited the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. and found his name there.  I also have talked to his uncle a number of times and discussed old times.  So much promise...and a life ended way too soon.

Whenever I think of Viet Nam, I always remember the loss of Henry Persons as being a prime example of the huge price that we paid for being there. May the Good Lord bless and keep you, Henry Persons. TWT
